After coming across Bakerella's blog and scanning through tons of recipes the week before July 4th weekend, I decided to try my hand at Bakerella's famous cake pops. I had a little trouble at first, but after a little trial and error, I came out with some decent treats! My family actually thought I had purchased them! I found that freezing the cake balls helps hold them together a little better, but you can't freeze too long, or the hot melted chocolate will crack once it comes in contact with the cold cake. The first cake pops I created were made of red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. I covered most with white chocolate and the remainder with milk chocolate (milk chocolate seemed to taste best). I added red, white, and blue sprinkle stars to them before they cooled and stuck them in styrofoam to dry. I packaged them in individual cookie bags with a silver twisty-tie. They were supposed to be quarter-size, but mine turned out a little larger. I hope to make these again for Reagan's party, so I hopefully will have my technique down by then. Either way, the cake pops were fun to make and eat!
